An Osteopath is highly skilled at palpation (using their hands to assess any neuro-musculoskeletal abnormalities). This helps them to identify points of weakness or strain and therefore enables your Osteopath to diagnose problem areas, treat and prevent re-occurence. Rehabilitation can be an important aspect for returning you to full health.
In May 2009 the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) published guidelines to improve the early management of persistent non-specific low back pain, setting out a range of effective mainstream and complementary treatments, including the use osteopathy. The guideline recommends what care and advice the NHS should offer to people affected by low back pain. |
