What is Osteopathy?

Osteopaths specialises in the diagnosis, management, treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal and other related disorders.

Osteopathy is not just about treating symptoms. We are trained to seek out and treat the underlying cause of the pain and can there for also help prevent future recurrences. The body is a wonderfully complex machine and when it is working well it will function with minimal strain, wear and tear. This gives us more energy to do the things we enjoy , live our lives at our best and aids in maintaining are health. There are many things in life that might throw our bodies out of this ideal balance. Some may be physical and more obvious such as a recent injury, pregnancy , or medical condition. Some may be connected more with emotion and less obvious such as stress at work, home, or grief. There are also changes at different stages in our life such as menopause that can throw our bodies way off kilter. It’s my job to detect what the driving factors of your symptoms might be and address these as best as I can. Sometime I may refer you for x ray or other investigations or to other specialists. I may also help guide you into a better self care regime by advising on lifestyle, and exercise.

Osteopaths undergo a lengthy study and training process lasting a minimum of four to five years. The course consists of anatomy, physiology, pathology, neurology, biomechanics and clinical methods.

Osteopaths are regulated by The General Osteopathic Council who govern osteopathic clinical and ethical guidelines. This regulation means that patients have assurances your Osteopath has met the high standards required in order to practice as an Osteopath.
